If you do not have a high school diploma you’re going to miss out on a lot of money throughout your working life. For instance, according to the US Department of Labor, a person that graduated high school will earn $700 more monthly than someone that did not attain a high school diploma. Therefore, it is safe to say that a drop-out will make $8400 a year less than someone with a diploma. I don’t know about you, but that’s a lot of money. And to make things worse for high school dropouts, graduates are 75% more likely to be employed if compared to someone that did not graduate. If this is not a good reason to run out and get a high school diploma, I don’t know what else would convince you.
On a more serious note, we live in a time when not having a high school diploma can mean the difference between you having a nice place to live or living out on the streets. For instance, past generations did not have to deal with the technological advancements that our generation is dealing with at this present moment in time. My great grandfather did not have his diploma, but he was able to find labor work, which allowed him the opportunity to support his family. Unfortunately, times have changed and many of the jobs available today requires you to have some knowledge about technology whether it be sending or reading email, or jumping on a computer to look up invoices.
The world is a different place today, experience and good work ethic do not account for much nowadays; although, it is important, “don’t get me wrong”. All I’m trying to say is that you’re going to need some form of academic qualifications as well. If you’re someone that failed to get your high school diploma the traditional way, do not despair. The opportunity is still out there for you to attain that elusive accomplishment. If you’re interested, they’re plenty of public as well as private establishments that specialize in helping adults get their diplomas over the internet. You must have access to a computer with the ability to connect to the internet. You can complete the courses without having to attend traditional classes.
This economic downturn has many people rushing to attain their high school diploma because finding a job in this environment is extremely hard for non-high school graduates.
